Jels Voldsted - A Medieval Trading Center
During the Middle Ages, Jels Voldsted was home to the Farrisskoven forest. The forest's rugged terrain made the area a natural gathering point, and it is believed that the voldsted and its associated castle were the center of a large fur trade. Furs were an important commodity from the nearby forests, and the Hærvejen, which ran close by, ensured easy access to trade. It is assumed that the castle burned down around 1420 and has never been rebuilt. Read more here

At Jels Voldsted, you will find an old inn that today houses a cozy café run by students and staff from Troldkær School. The school offers residential, work, and training opportunities for young people aged 17-25 with special needs. On weekdays, selected dishes from the menu are served, as well as coffee and cake.
